KARE 11: Three Must-Watch Summer Movies

By Brian Eggert | August 1, 2026

Dear readers,

Today, I returned to KARE 11 Saturday, the weekend morning show of Minnesota’s local NBC affiliate. I reviewed two new releases and shared some quick thoughts about The Odyssey.

First, I praised Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently lighting up the box office on its opening weekend. Tom Holland, Zendaya, and the excellent support cast lead this entry in the MCU, which is among the best Spider-Man movies ever made. Next, I previewed Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s superb samurai murder mystery The Samurai and the Prisoner. The story follows a sixteenth-century feudal lord who works with his military strategist prisoner to solve a series of uncanny deaths. It’s now in limited release and expands later in August and September.

Happy viewing!
