The CineFiles – Ep. 7
By Brian Eggert | August 7, 2025
Dear readers,
On the latest episode of The CineFiles, critic Jamie Rogers (The Playlist) and I cover a few new releases. Our usual frontman, Chris Hrapsky, is on vacation this week
In the first segment, Jamie and I offer our takes on the MCU’s latest installment, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the new version of The Naked Gun. In the second, we discuss Together, its roots in body horror, the buzzy quality of Neon’s marketing, and the lawsuit against the picture.
Finally, we talk about Chris’ “CineGift” from last time: 1998’s Always Outnumbered, an HBO original movie starring Laurence Fishburne, Bill Cobbs, and Laurie Metcalf. You can check out the movie on YouTube. For next time, my “CineGift” is Charles Chaplin’s The Great Dictator (1940), which is streaming for free on HBOMax and The Criterion Channel.

Happy viewing!
