Movie of the Year Podcast: The Devils
By Brian Eggert | January 2, 2026
Dear readers (and listeners),
I recently appeared as a guest on the Movie of the Year podcast, joining hosts Ryan and Mike to discuss The Devils (1971), Ken Russell’s controversial historical drama and one of my all-time favorite films.
We talked about Russell’s place in 1970s cinema, the film’s long history of censorship, and why its critique of power and religion as intertwined systems of control remains urgent more than fifty years later. And for those unfamiliar with the Movie of the Year podcast, get ready for a thoughtful conversation wrapped in an entertaining game-show format.
Thanks to Ryan and Mike for having me on the show!
Listen to the episode and be sure to subscribe to the Movie of the Year podcast.

Enjoy!
