The CineFiles – Ep. 24

By Brian Eggert | April 30, 2026

Dear readers,

On the latest episode of The CineFiles, journalist Chris Hrapsky and I take a deep dive into the highlights of the Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival (MSPIFF), a touching new short film, and a masterpiece of neo-noir cinema.

We lead off with a look at MSPIFF, which just wrapped its 45th year. I count down my top five favorite films from the festival. Check out my written coverage here.

Then, we transition to the compelling new short film Magan’s Fare, starring Barkhad Abdi alongside Alexis Rhee. Chris shares an exclusive interview with the directors, Christopher Knoblock and Dana White, about the production and the power of short-form storytelling.

For this week’s CineGift, we gush over Chris’ selection: Michael Mann’s Thief (1981). James Caan delivers a powerhouse performance in this stylish, high-stakes crime that remains a classic of the genre. For our next episode, I have selected Douglas Sirk’s 1956 Technicolor melodrama Written on the Wind, starring Rock Hudson, Lauren Bacall, Robert Stack, and Dorothy Malone.

Watch the full episode on the KARE 11 YouTube channel or by streaming on the  KARE 11+ app on your TV.

Enjoy the show!
