The CineFiles – Ep. 23
By Brian Eggert | April 9, 2026
Dear readers,
On the latest episode of The CineFiles, journalist Chris Hrapsky, critic Jamie Rogers, and I review two new theatrical releases and revisit a heart-wrenching 2018 drama. Plus, Jamie sits down with the talent behind this month’s big action-comedy.
We lead off with a review of The Drama, a provocative new dark comedy from A24. Zendaya and Robert Pattinson star in writer-director Kristoffer Borgli’s latest, which has already sparked intense debate over its subject matter. We dive deep into the film’s so-called twist in this segment, so consider this a spoiler warning. It’s in theaters now.
Then, we discuss Normal, starring Bob Odenkirk as an interim sheriff who uncovers a web of corruption in a small Minnesota town. If you’re looking for high-energy entertainment, this one opens on April 17. Following the review, Jamie shares her exclusive interview with Odenkirk and screenwriter Derek Kolstad to discuss the making of the film.
For this week’s CineGift, we look back at Jamie’s selection: Beautiful Boy (2018), starring Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet in a moving portrait of addiction. For our next episode, Chris has selected Michael Mann’s 1981 neo-noir classic Thief, starring James Caan.
