The CineFiles – Ep. 17

By Brian Eggert | January 17, 2026

Dear readers,

On the latest episode of The CineFiles, reporter Chris Hrapsky, critic Jamie Rogers, and I talked about three must-see new releases now in theaters.

In the first segment, we catch up on two excellent 2025 movies that have just expanded into more theaters. First up, we discuss the latest from Park Chan-wook, the South Korean filmmaker of Oldboy (2003). His new film, No Other Choice, is being hailed as another hit. We also talk about Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On?, starring Will Arnett and Laura Dern. Jamie and I agree that it’s Cooper’s best directorial effort to date.

Next up, we have a lengthy discussion about Nia DaCosta’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Our conversation goes from debating the film’s themes to the metaphorical potential of zombie movies.

For this week’s CineGift, Chris recommended Kissing a Fool (1998), which Chris and Jamie liked (I didn’t). And for the next CineGift, I recommend a classic: John Sturges’ Bad Day at Black Rock (1955).
