The CineFiles Ep. 9 preview

The CineFiles – Ep. 9

By Brian Eggert | September 11, 2025

Dear readers,

On the new episode of The CineFiles, journalist Chris Hrapsky, entertainment reporter Jamie Rogers, and I cover two new releases and a contemporary classic.

First up, we talk about The Long Walk, Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian novel, one of my personal favorites by King. Opening September 12 from Lionsgate, it stars Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, and Mark Hamill and tells an unflinching story about a contest that uses spectacle as a method of political control. It’s one of my favorite films of 2025.

Next, we turn to The History of Sound, now in theaters from MUBI. Set in the 1920s, the film follows Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor as they travel the country recording folk songs, a journey that blossoms into a tender and eventually tragic love story. Also, Jamie sat down with c0star Chris Cooper and filmmaker Oliver Hermanus to discuss the project.

Finally, Jamie’s CineGift pick this week is the Safdie brothers’ Good Time (2017), featuring one of Robert Pattinson’s best performances.
