KARE 11 – Oscar Predictions

By Brian Eggert | March 1, 2025

Dear readers (and viewers),

On Saturday, March 1, I appeared on Minnesota’s NBC affiliate, KARE 11, to share my predictions for the Oscars in four major categories: Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture.

Anchor Chris Hrapsky and I discussed the significance of the Academy Awards—if, indeed, they matter at all. While I often critique the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for rarely “getting it right,” the true value of the Oscars lies in keeping movies at the center of cultural conversations. It’s always rewarding to see people expanding their cinematic horizons to catch up with the nominees. That’s where the Oscars’ real impact can be felt.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony is Sunday, March 2 at 6 p.m. CT. You can watch it live on ABC and stream on Hulu.

Happy viewing!
